Child Dedication

Child dedication is an act of worship that does not secure the salvation of a child but is a mark of the beginning of the child’s spiritual journey.

Dedication of children to the Lord is an act of faith on the part of the parents. When parents present their child for dedication, they are declaring their intentions to raise their child in the knowledge and understanding of God’s word as outlined in Scripture (Deuteronomy 6:6-9, Ephesians 6:4).

This is a great responsibility and privilege that should not be done alone. We believe it is important for families and the church to join together as a community of people who support each other in faith and life (Romans 8: 3-8, Colossians 3:15-17, Titus 2:2-5).

Child dedication is a public declaration/act of this alliance. Parents bring their child before the church during a Weekend Gathering to make a vow to God to raise them to know and love Jesus. The church community recognizes this promise, prays for the child and parents, and commits to supporting them through their journey.

We hold Child Dedication services approximately 4 times per year. Let us know when you are ready to dedicate your child to the Lord and join us for one of the Gatherings. Once we have received your form, someone from our team will be in contact with you.

Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them.

Psalm 127: 3-5a

FAQs

How old is the right age to dedicate my child?

At KAC, we want every family to feel that they can dedicate their children to the Lord. Since dedication is not about your child’s salvation, but about your intentions as you raise them to know Jesus, there is no specific age that a child needs to be dedicated by and we have dedicated children as old as 10 years old before. If you are considering dedicating an older child, they should be a part of the discussion since this is a public act of worship in front of the whole church. Please speak with the Children’s Ministry Pastor if you have further questions about how to take the next step.

I'm new to church, can I dedicate my child?

We are happy you are joining us at KAC. At this time, there is not a requirement to be a member of the church to take part in Child Dedications. If you have decided KAC is your home church, you are regularly attending Weekend Gatherings, and you have a personal faith in Jesus, we encourage you to meet with the Children’s Ministry Pastor to discuss child dedications and get to know each other.
